The Heifer Project

Through the Springfest celebration at Juniata College, the Ag Club raised money to donate to the Heifer Project. The Heifer Project International is an organization whose mission is, “to work with communities to end hunger and poverty and care for the earth.” The Heifer Project was started sixty years ago by a relief worker from the Church of the Brethren. The Project delivers young heifers to impoverished families or communities in order to provide enough food and milk to sustain these societies. As members of the Heifer Project, individuals pledge to pass on the gift of self-sustainability, by donating their female calves to others in need. Read More at www.heifer.org

Osteochallenge Walk/Run

In the annual Osteochallenge 5K run/walk, nine members of the Ag Club participated with the Penn State Dairy Science Club to raise over $1,000 for the National Osteoporosis Foundation.

Community Center Involvement

Members of the club were invited to the Huntingdon Community Center to run an activity in their after school program. We planted grass seed in decorated cups and taught the kids what plants need to grow and how to care for them.

Local 4-H Cooperation

We are starting a connection with the Huntingdon County 4-H Extension program. In the past members of the club have served as judges for the Oustanding 4-Her competition and as judges for 4-H displays around the community during National 4-H Week.

Horsepower Farm

The Horsepower Farm is a farm where children with mental or physical disabilities can experience therapy through interaction with horses. A sleepover camp in the summer is designed to help the children rise above their disabilities. The Ag Club donates time and effort to help with animal care and other tasks at the farm.
