Collegiate
Challenge
Juniata College participates
in a Spring Break Service Trip every year. This trip is open to
any active member of Habitat. It is completely free, as long you
participate in the JCHfH fundraisers. We tend to go south on the
first day of spring break, work all week with an affiliate, and
spend one day experiencing something locally. The club usually sleeps
at a local church, motel, or some other kind of housing. This is
an experience that makes members understand exactly what Habitat
for Humanity is about. Our most recent trip locations include: Valdosta,
GA, Rock Mount, NC, Birmingham, AL and New Mexico.
Global
Village Trips
In May 2003,
JCHfH took its first Global Village trip to Romania. Twelve students
spent all year fundraising and spent two weeks in Romania helping
complete the 150,000th house built by Habitat for Humanity. In May
2005, 14 JCHfH students will travel to Zambia, Africa, to build
an entire house in 2 weeks time. This is hopefully the start of
a new tradition where JCHfH will take a Global Village trip every
other year in May.
