There's not much to
the JPC yet. It reminds me of that old 60s song... "we've only just
begun...."
The Juniata Philosophy
Club is a group of students from all POEs (though primarily students who
are or have been enrolled in philosophy courses) who wish to engage in
discussion outside of the classroom. We would like to give all Juniatians
the opportunity to express their thoughts and minds with fellow students.
Of course, there are philosophy and debate classes on campus, but there
aren't enough chances to speak ones mind without the added pressure of
essays, grades, and, of course, attendance requirements.
If you'd like to engage
in a bit of a tiff with a few friends about the latest, most relevant
topics today, come to a JPC Forum! There's no commitments, prerequisites,
or assignments. All we ask is that you bring a head full of wonder. We
will be meeting every other Tuesday at 9 PM in the lounge of the Humanities
Center on the Juniata campus.
The following is a
list of previous topics we have addressed in our earlier club meetings.
Never have we come to an agreement, but we have always left knowing something
which we did not know before!
· Souls and
Computers: What are the implications of AI? Are we only soulless robots?
· Pornography: Sexual Perversion or Legitimate Art Form?
· The Impossibility of True Theology: can Physical Human Beings
in anyway comprehend the Metaphysical "God(s)"?
· Damn It, I Like Free MP3s: Can the Music Industry Ethically Limit
Downloadable Music?
· And any ideas you have…
