Meeting Minutes
3-19-2009
IMPORTANT NOTES FROM LAST NIGHTS MEETING
*Monday March 23rd: our department is being reviewed, so please stop by
the lounge between 2:30 and 3:00pm for some cookies/juice and putting
in a good word for our great department!
*Friday April 24th: Come celebrate Dan's birthday with our annual assessment!
Freshman/Sophomores take 1/2 hour exam; Jr/Sr. take longer exam. This
is a national exam that helps our department see what our progress is.
It will be held in the late afternoon, and after the exam, the department
is providing pizza!
*Beachley Award for Distinguished Academic Service due to the Provost
office by March 31st (located on top floor of the library). Some things
to note: Dr. Siems funds the picnic every year and successful defended
our lounge as our space.
*Make sure you have told Mike/SPS e-mail account if you want to go on
the Zone 3 Meeting.
*COMMUNITY CENTER OUTREACH: We are heading downtown next Wednesday (March
25th) to do some liquid nitrogen demos/etc. Meet in the lounge at 4:30pm
if you want to help out.
-make sure to check for supplies needed by Monday.
****LOUNGE DAY: APRIL 24th:: we will do something nice for the lounge
(perhaps throw away the moldy hot sauce???)****
PHYSICS PHUN NITE: THURSDAY APRIL 2nd 7:00pm ALUMNI HALL!!!!!
-TELL YOUR FRIENDS TO COME OUT AND HAVE A FUN NIGHT WITH PHYSICS!
Timeline:
-Start looking at the demos ASAP: There is a sign up sheet on one of the
main tables in the lounge.
-March 26th (Thurs.): last day to sign up for a demo. You should also
know how your demo works/gotten all the supplies necessary by this date.
-March 30th (Mon.): 7:00-9:00p.m. A100. You must go to alumni within this
time frame and do show your demo. (complete with verbal explanation suitable
for elementary students).
March 31st (Tues.): Everybody meets at 7:00pm in A100 to go through logistics
(order, supplies needed, who's moving them, etc.)
April 1st (Wed.): RUN-THROUGH. Meet in A100 at 7:00pm!
April 2nd (Thurs.): PPN!! Meet at 5:30 for pizza and last minute getting-ready
details.
Volunteers Needed:
-person to run lights
-person to run camera
-person to run podium stuff
-person to take photos (Jordan)
-person(s) to sell glowsticks/LEDs/coloringbooks prior to show
-person to alter PowerPoint from last year
-person to alter flyer from last year: must get this to Austin by next
Thurs. (26th).
**Please e-mail SPS account or talk to Mike/Dan/Elise to sign up for one
of these. If you are signing up for one of the more technical jobs, talk
to Mike about what times he will need you to show you how things work.
Misc.
-Dr. B is talking to local papers with the announcement
-we have the main announcement on the 2nd
-need to firm who is on the bed of nails: top choices: Tim Launtz/Coach
Smith (Aaron/Austin talking to Coach smith). Other options: Dr. Matter,
Dean Cook-Huffman, Dr. Widman, Andy Dudash, Dr. Nagengast.
