Alcohol 101+
Making Safe and Responsible Decisions on Campus

During first-year student orientation and extended orientation in the fall, EO instructors and the students will develop a better understanding of the risks associated with alcohol and its prevalence on college campuses. The CD-ROM program allows users to explore different scenarios and understand the consequences of their actions.

Distributor Education

In the fall of 2004, local beer distributors and state liquor stores will be involved in an effort to educate prospective party hosts. The distributors will be able to provide information about the importance of including non-alcoholic beverages and food when they provide alcohol to legal-age students. Students purchasing alcohol will also receive free soda to provide for non-drinkers.

First-Year Student Survey

Surveys for first-year students are conducted during the summer orientation sessions and at the conclusion of the first semester to obtain data about college influences and drinking. Demographic questions will separate students by gender, grade point average, athletic involvement, and drinking history. Hopefully, data obtained from this survey will allow more grant funding opportunities in the future.

Pigroast Designated Driver Promotion

Students who choose to be designated drivers for Pigroast will receive a $5.00 gift certificate for Sheetz along with information about DUIs in Pennsylvania and an Alcohol Impairment Chart!

Athletes & Alcohol

Informational sessions for coaches and student-athletes are presented during team study halls in both the fall and spring semesters. A PowerPoint file with information regarding this subject will be available for download soon.

Ronald McDonald House Can-Tab Collection To help benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Pittsburgh, members of the college and the community can collect their can-tabs from any aluminum or tin can. Students can drop off can-tabs just inside the door in the orange crayon bank at The House.
