Mission Statement & History

Mission Statement

Our mission is to inform and inspire
Juniata College and the Huntingdon community
about issues affecting women of our world
in a supportive and safe climate.

History

Cara Helstrom started the Juniata College Women’s Group in the Fall of 2001. Cara, now the President of the group, felt a strong need for a place where women on Juniata's campus could come together in order to be informed about the state of world affairs and how the women of Juniata College can help. Women's Group aims to teach women on campus about different issues and different lives of women around the world, not to mention women on this very campus. It is a place where women can unite and be inspired.

At their meetings, members of Women's Group frequently listen to songs and poems by female writers. Female students, faculty and staff who attend the meetings are often asked to share inspirational stories from their lives, as well as to offer support to other women. In addition, Women's Group often has female professors from Juniata come and discuss their areas of expertise, and hope to have women from the community come and present in the near future. As the group matures, Women's Group hopes to bring female authors, poets, and singers to campus to promote campus wide awareness of women's issues.

Cara and all members of the Juniata College Women's Group hope that it will continue to grow and become a group on campus that will prove helpful and uplifting to many of Juniata's female students.
